What is it?
Reforestation is the act of planting tree seeds or saplings in an area that was once a forest. It reduces weathering and erosion by holding the soil down with the trees’ roots so when there is precipitation, the soil and sediment does not flow away.
Advantages and Disadvantages
One advantage of reforestation is that it slows climate change by “sucking in” carbon dioxide from the air into trees and changing it into oxygen for us to breathe. Another advantage of reforestation is that it maintains and preserves wildlife habitats for the inhabitants of the forest area.
One disadvantage of reforestation is that when people plant trees, they sometimes use too much fertilizer which is bad for the environment. Another disadvantage of reforestation is that when people plant trees, they usually plant ones that do not “work” with the environment.
